Latin music is loved by people of all ages for its rhythm and the flow of movement it creates when we hear it. Whether it be the 1-2-1-2 step of the Merengue or the three steps and a tap for the Bachata these dances and the music are fun and enjoyed everywhere. Over the year's many Merengue and Bachata artists, have surfaced and risen to the top with their music.

Juan Luis Guerra is one of the leading Latin artists and is recognized worldwide for his music talents. Juan isn’t only a singer, but also a songwriter, composer, and producer winning countless awards for his achievements. Although Juan Luis Guerra is popular for his merengue style, he has also helped make popular the bachata globally and is commonly associated with that genre.

Anthony Santos was one of the first to introduce bachata music to a mainstream audience and is considered one of the most influential Bachata musicians of all time. Santos changed his genre by adding romantic lyrics to his songs. Two of his most popular hits are "Corazon Culpable and the Bachata version of Las Tigres del Nortes single "Golpes En El Corazon."

Hector 'El Torito' Acosta was the lead singer in the Dominican Los Toros Band that is a Merengue group before he went solo. Hector still performs both Merengue and Bachata music, but with songs like "Me Voy" and "Sin Perdon," he has become one of the most popular artists of Bachata today. Acosta’s music career has produced for him several gold albums, top singles on the Tropical Songs chart, and his Grammy nomination for the album Obligame as Best Contemporary Tropical Album.

The boy band Aventura brought a whole new sound to the Bachata genre. The group added hip-hop and R&B to the mix planting the roots that would bring forth what is known as Urban Bachata. As a group of teenage boys, who are also brothers living in the Bronx, their beginning was no different from any other band. Calling themselves Las Teenagers when they first became a group in 1994, the Santos boys practiced wherever they could, and played for events and competed against other bands locally. The name change to Aventura came in 1999 when the group signed with BMG Aventura’s hit song “Obsession” marked the band a phenomenon in the music industry and kickstarted their popularity worldwide.

These Merengue and Bachata artists are only a few of the best. There are so many more excellent artists, and these are a few found on the top 10 billboard of artists right now. Performers such as Romeo Santos, Juan Gabriel, Enrique Iglesias, Nicky Jam and Julion’ Alvarez are listed among them.
